Motherhood--Messy, but PERFECT!/Self Care/Let's Have Some Compassion!

When was the last time you talked to yourself like a best friend would?

Moms are some of the most selfless people in the world. But when it comes to giving themselves grace, many struggle.

Why?

Because self-compassion often feels selfish, soft, or like slacking off.

But the truth is—self-compassion is essential. It’s what makes you stronger, not weaker.

Self-compassion means treating yourself the way you’d treat a struggling friend—with kindness, not judgment.

It’s not about letting yourself off the hook. It’s about recognizing your humanity and showing up for yourself emotionally.

Research by Dr. Kristin Neff shows that self-compassion leads to:

-Greater emotional resilience
-Lower stress, anxiety, and depression
-Increased motivation and healthier relationships

In short: it builds the inner strength to handle life’s hardest moments.

Resilience doesn’t come from being tough. It comes from recovering well.

When you practice self-compassion, you stop spiraling in guilt and bounce back faster, clearer, and with more emotional regulation. You don’t collapse under pressure.

Many moms believe self-compassion is indulgent or makes them less effective. But in reality, it:

-Reduces burnout
-Helps regulate emotions
-Models emotional intelligence for your kids
-Keeps you connected to who you are—not just your role

You’re not meant to be a martyr. You’re meant to be a whole human.

This week, practice offering yourself compassionate thoughts instead of judgmental ones.
