Making Motherhood Memorable

"I hate these pants. This shirt bothers me. This tag itches." Sound familiar? If you are the parent of a child who seems overly sensitive to the way his clothes feel on his body, be assured, you are not alone. It is actually a very common hassle parents across the world are experiencing. Why? Experts say many children suffer from one of three SPDs, or Sensory Processing Disorders. Although hypersensitivity to physical stimulation, such as the way your clothes feel on your body, varies in characteristics and intensity, it is true that many children are bothered by their clothing.

Lori Conger addresses this issue in a fun, heartfelt way in her children's picture book entitled My Squishy Pants. It's about a boy named Jonah who is sure the pants he has on "squish" him, and he is determined not to go to school in them. When his mother tries to change his mind, things only get worse, and she ends up in an embarrassing, no-win situation--right in front of the elementary school. Only when Jonah realizes for himself that he not sporting his "squishy pants" can they move on with their day. It's truly a story parents and children alike can relate to and enjoy, especially those who are picky about what they wear! Lori Conger, mother, educator and author, inspires mothers to make the most of each moment and invites children to learn from and love their mothers. Her unique insight touches hearts, brings smiles, and connects mothers to their children in a profound and wonderful way.
